Career Fair Munich 2026: Turning Preparation into Opportunity
Learning How to Stand Out
As part of Project Week at NEC, I had the opportunity to attend the Absolventenkongress Munich Career Fair 2026. The experience showed me how preparation, self-awareness, and networking can shape a successful career journey.
The week started with a workshop led by our Chancellor, Sascha. He explained how to create a professional German-style CV and how to tailor each application to a specific role. One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of researching a company before applying. Understanding a company’s culture, values, and goals helps you present your skills in a way that matches its needs.
Sascha also highlighted a mistake many students make. They often leave out hobbies, sports, volunteer work, or musical achievements because they think these experiences are not relevant. In reality, recruiters often look for more than technical skills. Playing sports can show teamwork and discipline. Learning an instrument can demonstrate dedication and patience. These details can help a candidate stand out from the crowd.

The Power of a Strong Elevator Pitch
Another important lesson focused on the elevator pitch. At a career fair, you usually have only 60 to 90 seconds to introduce yourself. Those few moments can determine whether a recruiter wants to continue the conversation.
A good elevator pitch does not happen by chance. Students should prepare and practice it beforehand. Recruiters appreciate candidates who clearly explain who they are, what skills they offer, and why they are interested in a role. Confidence and preparation often leave a lasting impression.
Discovering New Career Opportunities
Walking through the exhibition halls opened my eyes to the wide range of opportunities available. I saw companies from industries I had never considered before. Many students begin university with a clear idea of their future career. However, events like this show that there are often many different paths to success.
Career fairs encourage students to explore new possibilities. The perfect role may exist in an industry you have never researched. By speaking with different companies, students can learn where their strengths, interests, and ambitions fit best.
The event also reminded me that competition in the German job market is strong. Many international companies operate in English, but German language skills still provide a major advantage. Students who speak German often have access to more opportunities and can progress more easily into leadership positions.

Why NEC and Munich Make a Difference
The experience also highlighted one of the biggest strengths of NEC. As a smaller university, NEC gives students personal support and individual attention. Lecturers and staff know their students and actively help them prepare for professional life. They support us in improving our CVs, refining our applications, and developing the confidence needed for interviews and networking events.
This level of guidance is difficult to find at larger public universities, where professors often work with hundreds of students. At NEC, students receive practical support that helps them transition from university life into the professional world.
Studying in Munich offers another major advantage. The city is one of Germany’s most important business and technology hubs. Students can attend career fairs, networking events, and industry workshops throughout the year. Munich also attracts professionals from all over the world, creating a diverse and international work environment.
People from different cultures often communicate in English, which helps international students integrate more easily. At the same time, learning German remains a valuable investment for anyone planning a long-term career in Germany.

Final Thoughts
The Munich Career Fair taught me that career success starts long before submitting an application. Preparation, curiosity, and a willingness to explore new opportunities can create unexpected possibilities. The event reinforced the value of staying open-minded, developing strong communication skills, and making full use of the opportunities available through both NEC and the city of Munich.
