At New European College we have partnered with Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) — Germany's largest statutory health insurance fund — so that you arrive on day one with English-language support, an English-language app, and a personal contact in Munich who will guide you through every step.

Frequently asked questions
I'm from an EU country — do I still need German health insurance?
If you are from an EU member state or another country with a social security agreement, you generally remain covered by your insurance in your home country (via the European Health Insurance Card, EHIC). Speak with Michaela at TK to confirm whether your current cover is sufficient for enrolment at NEC or whether switching to TK is the better option for you.
I'm from outside the EU — what are my options?
As a non-EU student in Germany, you generally need to take out statutory health insurance or prove valid private cover. TK offers cover at student rates, with English-speaking support, an English app and special services tailored to students. The online application is in English.
How do I prove to NEC that I have health insurance?
The fastest way is via the TK-App: download your insurance confirmation in seconds and TK will forward it electronically to NEC. You can also request a confirmation for your own records.
How do I find an English-speaking doctor in Munich?
Use the TK-DoctorGuide English search. You can filter by speciality, location and the language the practitioner speaks. Many practices in Munich list English (and other languages) as a working language.
What if I get sick during the holidays back home?
The TK eHealth Card works for medical services in Germany and across Europe. For travel outside the EU, check the details with TK before you leave — additional travel cover may be advisable.
