Meet Kobe, the Newest Member of Our Admission Team!

We want to warmly welcome Kobe Kaufmann to our admissions team! Kobe will be supporting international students throughout their application process as they enroll and begin their studies here at NEC. Get to know Kobe better with these 10 interesting facts:

What brought you to New European College?

I feel like the more relevant question to ask is “what made you stay?” and the answer to that, I think, is captured best by walking the halls of campus.

 1. What’s something you want to learn or wish you were better at?

Everything. Guitar, languages, singing & dancing, speaking in front of crowds, drawing from memory, fishing, cooking, surfing, ice skating, poetry, and my golf swing.

 2. What’s your favourite place on earth?

Good company is always the most important concern, but I would say anywhere in Italy. Every little coastal Italian town feels unbelievably charming. I guess I mean that life is more beautiful than normal there.

3. What’s something you’re proud of?

My heritage, national and ethnic; my resilience, the times I’ve proven myself right, the messes I’ve cleaned up, how candidly I can speak with my sisters, the depth of my long-time friendships, all forgiveness I’ve withheld that I’ve since gave, the pace of my youth, conclusions I’ve come to that have since changed, and the time’s I’ve been useful to the people I love.

 4. What do you hope never changes?

America and her good fortune.

5. What job would you be terrible at?

I hadn’t really considered; I don’t keep close track of my weaknesses. That said, I would hate to be stuck someplace boring, my productivity would certainly suffer.

6.  What movie title best describes your life?

Ridley Scott’s 2012 blockbuster ‘Prometheus’. In reference not only to the film itself, another marvellous sci-fi/horror ‘Alien’ film by Scott, but also to the Greek legend Prometheus, ‘champion of humankind’ whose efforts I try to echo.

 7.  What’s the best way to start the day?

Waking up next to someone you love, shuffling into a kitchen with a fully stocked fridge, having a hot cup of Chinese tea or some great coffee, getting something fresh from the bakery, smelling something delicious, or having a project to do outdoors.

 8. How different was your life one year ago?

More than I can easily communicate. I barely recognize myself! February last year I hadn’t arrived in Germany yet, and the cold was a foreign element to me. Life in Florida taught me different lessons than the ones I’m learning now. I see the bet and raise it.

9. What is special about the place you grew up?

It’s ‘the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave’.

10. Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?

Accomplishments are cool, but I’m always most impressed by those who retain their lust for life despite adversity. These are the people that inspire, and whom we should all aspire untowards.
